Criteria for a Successful Settlement

Think about what you learned about other successful and unsuccessful settlements. Complete the mind map on pages 7–9 in your Engineering Portfolio and list five key criteria for a successful settlement and the justification for the criteria.

Did You Know?

Roanoke was not the only settlement to fail. Many other settlements along the Atlantic coast failed, including the French settlement of Charlesfort and the Spanish settlement of Ajacan.
